Fieser, Janssen and Voris Named to NCAA All-Tournament Team
Greencastle, Ind., May 18, 2010 – Fresh of its third-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Division III Central Regional, the No. 17 ranked Washington University in St. Louis softball team had three student-athletes named to the Regional All-Tournament Team.
Senior shortstop Megan Fieser, freshman outfielder Ashley Janssen and junior pitcher/third baseman Claire Voris were named to the 15-person team.
Fieser hit .444 (8-of-18) in the NCAA Tournament with three stolen bases. She hit safely in four of the five NCAA Tournament games, recording three hits against both Transylvania and Denison. Fieser ended the 2010 season ranked first in the UAA in batting average (.459), hits (72) and stolen bases (34).
Janssen batted .364 (4-11) with one home run and four RBIs during the five-game central regional. She had a hit and an RBI in each of the first two games, before going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and her first career home run in a 5-0 with over North Central College on May 15.
Voris posted a 3-2 record with a 1.85 earned run average during the Bears’ postseason run. After taking a loss in the tournament opener against Transylvania, she strung together three-straight wins, including 5-0 complete game victories over Denison and North Central. Voris struck out 22 batters in 22.2 innings while holding her opponents to a .202 batting average.
Washington University completed the 2010 season with a 37-11 overall record, and placed third at the 2010 NCAA Division III Central Region. The 37 wins tie for the second most in school history. The Bears also placed second in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with a 5-3 mark.
