Clarie Voris Named to NCAA Midwest Regional All-Tournament Team
Pella, Iowa, May 19, 2011 – Senior pitcher/infielder Claire Voris of the Washington University in St. Louis softball team was named to the 2011 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional All-Tournament Team, as announced by Central College on Thursday. This marks the third-straight year Voris has earned all-regional accolades.
Voris hit .364 (4-for-11) and went 1-1 on the mound with a 1.33 earned run average as the Bears posted a 1-2 record at the Midwest Regional. She was 2-for-3 at the plate and picked up the win as the Bears beat Fontbonne University 3-2 in the opening round on Thursday, May 12.
In a 2-1 loss to No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday, Voris was 2-for-7 at the plate and fanned nine batters in 14 innings of work. With nine strikeouts, she moved into 21st place in Division III history with 818 in her career.
Voris concludes her four-year career with a 71-26 record on the mound and a .343 batting average. She ranks in the top two in six of seven pitching categories and in the top-10 in four hitting categories. She ranks first all-time in complete games (72), games pitched (118) and innings pitched (651.1), second in wins (71), shutouts (24) and strikeouts (818), and fourth in earned run average (1.75). At the plate, Voris is sixth all-time in triples (six), eighth in stolen bases (23), ninth in home runs (12), RBIs (80) and total bases (202).
Washington University completed the 2011 season with a 32-12-1 overall record, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 10th-straight year. The Bears also placed second in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with a 6-2 mark.
