Santos and Mullen Named to NFCA All-Midwest Region Team

St. Louis, Mo., May 14, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis senior first baseman Corissa Santos and sophomore outfielder Maggie Mullen were named to the 2012 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Team, as announced Monday by the Association.
Santos earns first-team all-Midwest honors for the first time in her career after picking up second-team accolades the past two seasons, while Mullen was named to the third-team after garnering first-team honors as a freshman.
Santos started all 40 games at first base for the Bears batting .373 with four home runs and a team-best 29 RBIs. She also led the University Athletic Association (UAA) and is eighth in NCAA Division III with 20 doubles. Santos also led the conference in sacrifice flies (three) while ranking second in walks (19) and third in total bases (81).
Santos, a four-time all-UAA selection, concluded her career as one of the most decorated players in school history. She ranks first in school history in doubles (55) and walks (64), second in hits (187), third in games played (169) and total bases (295), fifth in home runs (16), RBIs (108) and runs scored (113), eighth in batting average (.364) and ninth in triples (five).
Mullen batted .373 with a team-best six home runs and 28 RBIs in her sophomore campaign. A first-team all-UAA honoree for the second-straight season, she also tied for the team lead with Santos with eight multiple-RBI games. Mullen enters her junior season ranked second in school history in batting average (.404) and sixth in home runs (15).
Washington University completed the 2012 season with a 28-12 overall record, its 10th-straight season with 25 or more wins. The Bears also tied for second in the UAA Conference Tournament with a 4-4 mark.
