Softball Lands Three on UAA Championship All-Tournament Team

St. Louis, Mo., March 22, 2012 – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team had three student-athletes named to the 2012 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship All-Tournament Team, as announced by the Association on Thursday.
Junior outfielder Ashley Janssen, sophomore outfielder Maggie Mullen and senior infielder Corissa Santos were named to the 13-person team. Emory’s Megan Light earned the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player award after hitting .458 with three homeruns and 11 RBIs.
Washington University finished in a tie for second place at the 2012 conference championship tournament with a 4-4 record. Emory posted a 6-2 mark to win its third-straight league title.
Janssen hit .450 (9-20) with six runs scored, four walks and a tournament-best five stolen bases. She hit safely in 5-of-6 games played, including a 3-for-4 performance with three runs scored and two stolen bases in a 7-6 win against previously No. 2 ranked Emory on March 14. Janssen also had a pair of hits against the University of Rochester (March 15) and Emory (March 17).
Santos, who earned the honor for the third time in her career, batted .467 (14-30) with six doubles, a homerun and nine RBIs at the UAA Championship Tournament. She had six multi-hit games for the Bears, including a 3-for-4 performance with a double and two RBIs against Emory on March 17. Santos led the five-team tournament in hits (14), doubles (six) and total bases (23), and was third in batting average (.467) and fourth in RBIs (nine).
Mullen, who earned the accolade for the second-straight season, was 12th in the tournament in hitting (.364) with eight hits in 22 at-bats with five RBIs and six runs scored. She hit safely in six of eight games played, including back-to-back multi-hit games against Rochester (March 15) and Case Western Reserve University (March 16).
