Watts Named to ITA Collegiate All-Star Team
St. Louis, Mo., July 13, 2010 – 2010 NCAA Division III singles champion John Watts has been named to the 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate All-Star Team, as announced by the Association.
The ITA Collegiate All-Star Team, along with the ITA National Arthur Ashe winners, will be honored at a special Awards Luncheon on Saturday, Aug. 28. The ITA All-Star Team Awards Luncheon, hosted by the USTA, will be followed by special seating to view the Arthur Ashe Kids Day show. The team will again be the guests of the USTA and the ITA for a special dinner Friday, Aug. 27, in New York City, following the team meeting.
Watts earned ITA National Senior Player of the Year and the ITA Central Region Senior of the Year accolades after capturing the NCAA Division III Singles National Championship on May 30, with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Chris Goodwin of Emory University. He is the first national champion in Washington University men's tennis history.
Watts qualified for the NCAA Tournament in singles four times, and made the championship match in 2007 and 2010. He concludes his career as the most decorated student-athlete in Washington University men’s tennis history, posting a career record of 238-43. Watts owns a school-record mark of 133-21 in singles and 105-22 in doubles.
