Isaac Stein and Max Woods Earn ITA All-America Honors
St. Louis, Mo., June 20, 2011 — Isaac Stein and Max Woods of the Washington University in St. Louis men’s tennis team were named to the 2011 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III All-America Team, as announced Monday by the ITA.
Stein and Woods also All-America honors from the NCAA for the second-straight season after advancing to the semifinals of the 2011 NCAA Division III Doubles Championship.
Stein was 17-12 this season in singles and 21-11 in doubles for a combined overall record of 38-23. He qualified for the 2011 NCAA Tournament in both singles and doubles for the second-consecutive year.
Stein earned three All-America accolades in his career, becoming the sixth player in school history to achieve the feat. He ends his four-year career on the Danforth Campus as one of the winningest players in school history. Stein is sixth all-time in victories with a 156-67 record, while also ranking sixth in singles (67) and doubles (89) wins.
Woods led the team with a 40-23 overall record as a senior. He was 19-12 while playing No. 2 singles and 21-11 at No. 1 doubles with Stein. Woods concludes his career ranked fifth all-time singles wins (78), fourth in doubles victories (94) and fourth on the wins list with a 172-73 record.
The Washington University men’s tennis team posted a 20-6 overall record in 2010-11 and advanced to the NCAA Division III semifinals for the fourth-straight season. The Bears also placed second in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with a 2-1 mark.
