Puttermans Selected to Participate in NCAA Individual Championships
St. Louis, Mo., May 9, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis will send one singles players and a doubles team to the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Individual Championships, held May 24-26, at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Junior Adam Putterman will represent Washington U. in the 32-man singles draw, while Putterman and freshman Ross Putterman are one of 16 doubles teams selected.
Adam Putterman has posted a 47-12 overall record as a junior, including a 27-4 mark in singles. Putterman has a 102-48 (.680) overall record and became the 11th player in school history to join the 100-win club. He is ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III in singles after placing second at the 2011 ITA/USTA Division III National Championships in the fall.
The Bears’ No. 1 doubles team, the Puttermans are 20-8 this season and earned second-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors. Adam and Ross Putterman have accumulated a 13-7 mark while playing No. 1 doubles and split a pair of matches this season against ranked opponents.
Washington University will travel to Whitewater, Wis., to compete in the Central Regional of the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship on Friday-Sunday, May 11-13. The Bears are the top seed in the six-team regional and the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Championship.
The Bears received a bye in the first round and will take on the winner of No. 4 seed and 30th ranked Coe College (22-7) and No. 5 seed Grinnell College (24-6) on Saturday at 9 a.m.
