Adam and Ross Putterman to Participate in NCAA Division III Individual Championships
St. Louis, Mo., May 8, 2013 – Washington University in St. Louis will send one singles player and a doubles team to the 2013 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Individual Championships, held May 23-25, at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Senior Adam Putterman will represent Washington U. in the 32-man singles draw, while Putterman and sophomore Ross Putterman were one of 16 doubles teams selected. This marks the second-straight season Adam Putterman will participate in both the singles and doubles championships, while Ross Putterman is also making his second doubles appearance.
Adam Putterman has posted a 41-15 overall record as a senior, including a 24-6 mark while playing No. 1 singles. Putterman, the 2013 University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Valuable Player, has a 152-67 overall record and is seventh on the all-time Washington University wins list (152). He is ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III in singles after placing fifth at the 2012 ITA/USTA Division III National Championships in the fall, and made a run to the NCAA quarterfinals a year ago.
The Bears’ No. 1 doubles team, the Puttermans are 15-7 this season and earned first-team all-UAA honors. The duo has won seven of its last eight matches, and has a 10-5 record while playing No. 1 doubles. A year ago, the Puttermans dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision in their opening-round match at the NCAA Championship.
Washington University will host the Central Region of the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship Friday-Sunday, May 10-12, at the Tao Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Bears are the top seed in the five-team regional and the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Championship.
The Bears received a first-round bye and will take on the winner of No. 4 seed Kalamazoo College (9-12) and No. 5 seed Grinnell College (22-11) Saturday at 9 a.m.
