Stein and Woods Selected to Participate in NCAA Individual Championships
St. Louis, Mo., May 11, 2011 – The No. 5 ranked Washington University in St. Louis men’s tennis team will send two singles players and a doubles team to the 2011 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Individual Championships, held May 27-29, at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in southern California.
Seniors Isaac Stein and Max Woods will represent Washington University in the 32-man singles draw, while Stein and Woods are one of 16 doubles teams selected. This marks the second singles appearance for Stein, after earning All-America honors after falling in the round of 16. Stein and Woods earned All-America honors in doubles a season ago after dropping its round of 16 match.
Stein is 15-11 this season while playing the No. 1 singles spot for the Bears. He ranks sixth in school history with a 65-29 singles record and a 149-63 overall mark. Stein is ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division III.
Woods is 18-10 this year in singles, and ranked No. 30 in NCAA Division III. He ranks fifth in school history with a 77-35 singles record and a 166-68 overall record.
The Bears’ No. 1 doubles team and 19th-ranked team in Division III, Stein and Woods are 16-8 this season, including a 13-7 mark in dual matches. Woods ranks fifth all-time in school history in doubles victories (89-33) while Stein is sixth (84-34).
The Washington University men’s tennis team is hosting the Central Regional of the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship on Friday-Sunday, May 13-15, at the Tao Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo. The Bears earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, and making their 12th-straight NCAA appearance. Washington U. takes on the winner of No. 4 seed Luther College and No. 5 seed Earlham College on Saturday at 10 a.m.
