WUSTL Men’s and Women’s Tennis Ranked in ITA Top-30 Poll

St. Louis, Mo., November 11, 2011 — Washington University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams will begin the 2011 season ranked in the top-15 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Top-30 polls, as announced by the ITA. The men’s team checks in at No. 3, while the women are ranked No. 14.
Eleventh-year head coach Roger Follmer guided the 2010-11 men’s team to the Final Four for the fourth-straight season and a 20-6 overall record. The Bears, who are ranked No. 1 in the Central Region, made their 12th-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and defeated Williams College 5-0 in the NCAA third-place match.
Junior Adam Putterman opens the spring season ranked No. 3 nationally in singles after placing second at the USTA/ITA Division III Championship on Oct. 15. Emory University’s Dillon Pottish is ranked No. 1, while teammate Chris Goodwin is No. 2. Freshman Ross Putterman is ranked No. 25 in singles after advancing to the semifinals of the USTA/ITA Central Regional.
Sophomore Max Franklin and freshman Kevin Chu are ranked No. 12 in doubles after falling in the USTA/ITA Central Regional in September. Franklin and Chu ousted three ranked teams en route to the finals, including teammates Adam Putterman and Ross Putterman in the semifinals.
Seventh-year head coach Kelly Stahlhuth led the women’s team to a 16-6 overall mark in 2010-11, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bears also placed third at the UAA Championship. Washington U. is also ranked No. 3 in the Central Region.
The men’s team opens the 2012 season against Division II McKendree University on Friday, Feb. 3, in Belleville, Ill., while the women’s team begins the season at the ITA National Indoor Championship on Friday-Sunday, March 2-4, in Greencastle, Ind.
