Late Goal Lifts Fontbonne Past Washington U. Men’s Soccer

St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 26, 2012 - A goal in the 88th minute gave Fontbonne University a 1-0 win over the Washington University in St. Louis men’s soccer team on Wednesday night at Gay Field in Clayton, Mo.

After 87 scoreless minutes, Fontbonne’s Justin Williams took a shot from about 20 yards out on the right side of the field and curled the ball to the upper left corner of the net for the game-winner. Washington U. was unable to counter in the final two minutes as the Griffins earned the win.

Washington U. and Fontbonne played evenly throughout the match with the Griffins gaining an 8-5 advantage in shots during the first half. The Griffins outshot Washington U. 14-9 in the match, including a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Jonathan Jebson played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bears, recording three saves.

Washington University (5-2-1) begins University Athletic Association (UAA) play by traveling to Pittsburgh to face No. 4-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at 1:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Sept. 30.
