Washington University’s Jonathan Lipsey, Nik Patel Named to Academic All-District Team

St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 31, 2013 – A pair of Washington University in St. Louis men’s soccer players were named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Five Men’s Soccer Team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Junior midfielder Jonathan Lipsey and senior defender Nik Patel were among the 12 student-athletes selected to the Academic All-District Five Team for NCAA Division III.
Lipsey has played in all 14 matches for the Bears this season, making eight starts. He is tied for third on the team with eight points on three goals and two assists. Lipsey scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in Washington U.’s 4-0 win at Greenville College Sept. 25. A two-time academic all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honoree, Lipsey holds a 3.96 GPA while majoring in biomedical engineering.
Patel has been a four-year starter on Washington U.’s back line that has posted 31 shutouts in his 63 career matches played. A two-time all-UAA selection, he has started 13 matches for the Bears in 2013. Patel has received academic all-UAA recognition three times and has twice been named the UAA Men’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week in his career. He has a 3.54 GPA while majoring in biochemistry.
In order to be selected to an Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing. As members of the Academic All-District Team, Lipsey and Patel will be among the nominees for the Academic All-America Men’s Soccer Team, which will be announced Friday, Nov. 22.
