Men’s Soccer Suffers First Conference Loss of Season to Rochester, 2-0
St. Louis, Mo., October 28 2011 — The No. 7 ranked Washington University men’s soccer team suffered its first University Athletic Association (UAA) defeat in a 2-0 loss to the University of Rochester on Friday night at Francis Field in St. Louis, Mo.
Washington U. dropped its first home loss since Oct. 23, 2009 (1-0 vs. Berry), a span of 18 games. The Bears were 8-0-3 in 2010 and entered the night with a perfect 7-0 mark at home.
Rochester (9-3-2, 2-1-1 UAA) struck first in the seventh minute following a goal off a corner kick. Jakob Seidlitz sent a corner kick into the box that snuck through the WUSTL defense and onto the foot of Max Fan, who one-timed it into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Rochester outshot Washington U. 6-4 in the opening 45 minutes of action.
The Yellowjackets added an insurance goal at 56:13, as Tom Sorrentino converted a throw-in from Max Eberhardt for his fourth goal of the year. Washington U. managed to outshoot Rochester 13-11 and the Bears had five shots on goal.
Washington University (13-2-1, 4-1 UAA) plays its final home of the 2011 season on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m., against Case Western Reserve University. Prior to Sunday’s contest, Washington U. will honor its six seniors on of the men’s soccer team.
