Kelly to Play Semi-Professional Basketball in the English Basketball League
St. Louis, Mo., September 28, 2010 – 2010 Washington University in St. Louis graduate Zach Kelly has signed a contract to play semi-professional basketball for the Bradford Dragons in the English Basketball League (EBL).
Kelly leaves for Leeds, United Kingdom, on Wednesday, and will begin his season in October. While in England, Kelly will also pursue a master’s degree in international business administration from the Bradford College of Management.
A team captain as a senior for the Washington University men’s basketball team, Kelly averaged 5.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in 22 starts. An honorable-mention all-University Athletics Association (UAA) selection in 2009, he appeared in 105 career games for the Red and Green making 51 starts.
For his career, Kelly averaged 4.1 points (428 points) and 3.4 rebounds (360 rebounds) per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 74.4 percent from the foul line. He scored a career-high 23 points on Nov. 28, 2008, against Aurora University, en route to earning UAA Athlete of the Week honors. Kelly graduated in May with a degree in psychology and political science.
Kelly and the Bears compiled an overall record of 103-16 (.866) during his four seasons, with three Final Four appearances, three UAA Championships, and the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship.
