Chris Klimek Named UAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week

St. Louis, Mo., December 17, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis junior forward Chris Klimek has been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week, as announced Monday by the Association. This marks the first time in Klimek’s career he has earned the accolade.

Klimek scored 24 points and added six rebounds, two assists and two blocks in an 82-56 win over Elmhurst Saturday. He was 8-for-13 from the field and 8-for-11 from the foul line in the win. Klimek, who has scored in double figures in eight of the first 10 games played this season, also eclipsed the 400-point plateau for his career in the win.

Klimek is averaging 15.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game this season and shooting 66.3 percent from the field. He ranks third in the conference in field goal percentage (.663), fifth in scoring (15.9) and ninth in blocked shots (0.9). Klimek’s 66.3 field goal percentage also ranks 10th in NCAA Division III.

Washington University is off to a 9-1 start in the 2012-13 season and ranked No. 10 in the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll. The Bears conclude first semester play with a road game Thursday, Dec. 20, at MacMurray College. Game time is set for 7 p.m., and will be broadcast live on the Bear Sports Network.
