Aaron Thompson and William Carey Added to Men's Basketball Coaching Staff
St. Louis, Mo., November 1, 2013 – Washington University in St. Louis men’s basketball coach Mark Edwards announced the addition of two-time All-American and 2010 Washington U. graduate Aaron Thompson and 2013 University of Missouri graduate William Carey to his staff for the 2013-14 season.
Thompson and Carey will coach the junior varsity team and assist the varsity squad, in addition to assisting Washington U.’s video and digital scouting operations.
A native of Elida, Ohio, Thompson spent the last two seasons as an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Mary Institute and Country Day School in St. Louis. He assisted WUSTL graduate Matt Hixenbaugh to a 28-23 record in two seasons, and won the 2011-12 ABC League Championship.
Thompson is one of the most decorated men’s basketball players in Washington University school history, earning 2009 first-team D3hoops.com All-America and 2010 third-team D3hoops.com All-America accolades. He is the seventh player in school history to earn multiple All-America awards.
Thompson was a member of the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship teams, earning NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team honors twice. He helped guide the Bears to a 103-15 (.866) record in four seasons with three conference championships and three-straight trips to the Final Four. Thompson ranks first in school history in games played (119), second in three-pointers made (289), third in scoring (1,591), fourth in steals (163) and sixth in assists (340).
Carey served the past two years as a student manager for the Missouri men’s basketball team, and was named the 2012-13 Manager of the Year. Carey was a four-year letterwinner at Yorktown High School (Va.) and earned the 2009 Coaches Award.
