Tim Cooney Garners Pair of Weekly Men's Basketball Accolades
St. Louis, Mo., January 9, 2012 – Sophomore guard Tim Cooney was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week and the Earlaustinjr.com Area College Player of the Week, as announced Monday.
Cooney tied career-highs with 19 points and six assists, and was perfect from the field (7-of-7) in a 79-72 win over the University of Chicago on Saturday. He hit all three of his shots from three-point range and a pair of free-throws in the win. Cooney also added four rebounds and two steals in 30 minutes off the bench.
Cooney has started 10 of 12 games played, and is averaging 6.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game this year. He also ranks second on the team and is tied for fifth in the conference with 15 steals.
Washington University (9-3, 1-0 UAA) continues UAA play with a pair of road games this week on the East Coast. The Bears take on Case Western Reserve University on Friday, Jan. 13 in Cleveland, Ohio, followed by a road contest at Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday, Jan. 15, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
