Katy Johnson Named Athletics Marketing and Promotions Intern
St. Louis, Mo., July 28, 2011 — Washington University in St. Louis has named Katy Johnson Marketing and Promotions Intern, as announced today by Director of Athletics John Schael. Johnson will begin her duties on August 22.
Johnson will be responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of the marketing and promotions plan for the Department of Athletics. She will also be the advisor of Red Alert, the student promotion group to increase student attendance at athletic events. Additionally, Johnson will coordinate in-game promotions and performances at selected events as well as assist with the W Club Golf Scramble.
Johnson arrives on the Danforth Campus after spending the past year as a member of the game night entertainment staff for the New Orleans Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). She was involved in all aspects of NBA game entertainment including on-court entertainment elements as well as pre-game, post-game and concourse activities. Johnson was also involved in the promotion of the Jr. Hornets Kids’ Club program, which included over 5,000 members.
A Crystal Lake, Ill., native, Johnson received her bachelor's degree in health and sports studies from the University of Iowa in 2010. She served as a sports marketing assistant for the Iowa Athletic Department from 2008-10, and was a volunteer for the Iowa STAR program and Hawkeye Host position.
