St. Louis, Mo., July 20, 2010 – Washington University in St. Louis senior defensive tackle John Schneider has been selected as a nominee for the 2010 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team, as announced by the Association today.
Schneider is one of 112 student-athletes from all levels of college football up for one of the 22 final spots on the team, which will be announced in late September. Players were nominated to the team based on their positive influences in giving back and volunteering in their communities.
Schneider has been active in the Washington University community throughout his career on the Danforth Campus. Through his involvement in Sigma Chi Fraternity, he has helped put on events on campus such as the ThurtenE Carnival and Derby Days to help raise money for local charities.
Outside his fraternity involvement, Schneider has been active in helping tutor adults toward getting their GED through the Hope House as well as spending time as a volunteer at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center. He has also been involved in an organization called Overflow since 2008, and went on a mission trip to Florida with the organization during spring break in 2009.
Schneider has served as a positive representative for the Washington University football team by serving as a host for recruits and their families and participating in multiple student-athlete panels throughout his career. On the playing field, Schneider is a three-year letterwinner for the Bears, having earned second-team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors during the 2009 season. He is also a two-time member of the UAA All-Academic Team.
