Football Kicks off 2012 Season Against Defending National Champs on Friday

St. Louis, Mo., August 27, 2012 – The Washington University in St. Louis football team opens its 116th season of college football on Friday, Aug. 31, at home against No. 1-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. at Francis Field.
Head coach Larry Kindbom returns 10 starters (Offense-5; Defense-4; Special Teams-1) from last year’s squad, which finished with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-1 mark in University Athletic Association (UAA) play.
UW-Whitewater enters Friday’s contest againstWashington U. riding a 45-game winning streak, the longest active streak in college football – on any level – and the fourth longest win streak in the history of NCAA football.
The three-time defending NCAA Division III national champions have not lost since a 31-26 loss to University of Mount Union on Dec. 20, 2008, in the Stagg Bowl. UW-Whitewater went 15-0 a season ago, winning a seventh-consecutive WIAC (Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) title, and advanced to the national championship game for the seventh year in a row.
