Football Chosen as Co-Favorite in UAA Preseason Coaches’ Poll
St. Louis, Mo., August 20, 2012 — Washington University in St. Louis and Case Western Reserve University were selected as the co-favorites in the 2012 University Athletic Association (UAA) Football Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Defending UAA champion Case Western Reserve received two first-place votes, while Washington University garnered one first-place tally to tie for first place. The University of Chicago, who picked up the remaining first-place vote, and Carnegie Mellon University were tied for third.
Head coach Larry Kindbom returns 10 starters (Offense-5; Defense-4; Special Teams-1) and 67 letterwinners from last year’s squad, which finished the season with a 6-4 record and a 2-1 mark in UAA play. The Bears have won a conference-best eight UAA titles, but are looking for their first championship since 2004.
Washington University opens the 2012 schedule at home against three-time defending NCAA Division III national champion and No. 1-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday, Aug. 31, at 8:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live on Bears TV at: http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/wustl.portal#.
