Alex Hallwachs Named to 2013 Fred Mitchell Award Watch List
St. Louis, Mo., July 30, 2013 – Washington University in St. Louis sophomore Alex Hallwachs was one of 34 kickers named to the 2013 Fred Mitchell Award Watch List, as announced Tuesday by the organization.
The list includes kickers from National Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Division II, III, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The kickers were nominated by their colleges for excellence on the football field and in the community. Hallwachs is one of 11 Division III kickers named to the team, and just one of four sophomores.
Hallwachs was a second-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection as a freshman, and finished the year second on the team in scoring with 26 points despite only appearing in five games. He was 5-of-6 in extra points and 7-of-12 in fields in his rookie campaign. Hallwachs made both field goals from 45 and 36 yards in an 18-13 win at Denison University Oct. 20, and tied a school record with three field goals – including a career-long 46-yarder – in a 15-3 win over Carnegie Mellon University Oct. 27.
He led the UAA with five field goals and was second in scoring with 18 points in conference games only. Hallwachs was named the UAA Special Teams Athlete of the Week Oct. 29. Off the field, he was a New Dimensions volunteer via Koaches 4 Kids organization, and also volunteered for eight weeks to help young children in the inner city developing leadership, self-motivation and teamwork skills through soccer.
