Washington U. Football Has Four Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team

St. Louis, Mo., November 8, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis had four student-athletes named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Five Division III Football First Team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Senior punter Eric Chalifour, sophomore offensive lineman Connor Meneough, sophomore offensive lineman Will Thompson and junior defensive lineman Seth Wight each took home the accolade for Washington U.

Chalifour has served as the starting punter and kickoff specialist for the Bears' in 2012. He ranks third in the conference and 34th in NCAA Division III in punting (38.6), while the Bears' punt team is second in the UAA and 50th Division III in net punting (33.7). A two-time All-UAA and Academic All-UAA selection, Chalifour has a 3.56 grade point average while majoring in anthropology.

Meneough and Thompson have helped anchor an offensive line that is averaging 14.4 points and 263.9 yards per contest in 2012. Meneough has started all nine games at left tackle for the Bears, while Thompson has made the start in all nine contests at right tackle. Meneough has a 3.68 GPA with a major in business and Thompson has a 3.63 GPA while majoring in business.

Wight has started eight games on the defensive line for the Bears in 2012 making 25 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. A nominee for the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, he was honored as the UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week on Oct. 15 and Oct. 29. A two-time Academic All-UAA selection, Wight has a 3.67 GPA while majoring in anthropology.

In order to be selected to an academic all-district team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. All four student-athletes will be eligible to be selected to the Academic All-America Football Team, which will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
