WUSTL Coach Jeff Stiles Named Women's Cross Country National Coach of the Year
St. Louis, Mo., November 28, 2011 — Washington University in St. Louis head cross country coach Jeff Stiles was named the 2011 Division III Women’s Cross Country National Coach of the Year, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
In his 11th season, Stiles led the Washington U. women to the program’s first-ever National Championship on Nov. 19. The Bears scored 70 points to win the title over defending champion Middlebury, who scored 111 points. Washington U. had five runners finish in the top-40 to win the championship. In 2011, Stiles also led Washington U. to the NCAA Midwest Regional and the University Athletic Association (UAA) championships.
North Central College head coach Al Carius, who coach Stiles in college, was named the National Men’s Coach of the Year after leading North Central to its 14th national championship.
