Washington University Men’s Cross Country Finishes Fourth, Women Sixth at Brooks Invitational
RESULTS
Oshkosh, Wis., October 13, 2012 – The Washington University in St. Louis men’s cross country team raced to a fourth-place finish, and the WUSTL women finished sixth at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational on Saturday at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.
The Washington University men finished fourth out of 38 teams with 127 points, while the WUSTL women scored 227 points to place sixth out of 37 teams. Calvin College topped North Central College (Ill.) (52-58) for the men’s team title, while University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire finished third with 93 points. Calvin also took the women’s team title with 91 points, while University of Chicago edged UW-Eau Claire (114-115) for second and third, respectively. Hope College (172 points) and Illinois Wesleyan University (222) rounded out the top-five teams in the women’s race.
Washington University placed all five scorers in the top-50 in the field of 506 men’s runners. Junior Kevin Sparks finished ninth in 25:21.30 on the 8K course. Sophomore Drew Padgett placed 16th in 25:31.16, while senior David Hamm was 26th in 25:39.95. Sophomores Ryan Senci and Garrett Patrick rounded out the scoring for the Bears by finishing 38th and 43rd in 25:55.67 and 25:58.14, respectively.
Sophomore Lucy Cheadle was the top finisher for the Washington U. women, placing third overall in the field of 500 runners with a time of 21:35.41 on the 6K course. Freshman Ellen Toennies followed in 41st in a time of 23:07.81, while junior Lizzy Handschy placed 56th in 23:20.75. Freshman Bri Tiffany clocked a time of 23:23.21 to place 60th, while sophomore Beatrice Gantzer finished 70th in 23:27.67.
The Washington U. men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Rochester, N.Y. Washington University swept the UAA men’s and women’s team titles in 2011.
