Twitter Time With Senior Matthew Polites
Q. What is your Twitter handle and how did you come up with it?
A. My handle is @PLite3. A coach came up with the nickname "P-Lite" for me when I was a freshman in high school, and it's stuck with me since. Also, 3 is my jersey number.
Q. How often do you check Twitter?
A. Too often. In my defense, it's really overwhelming when you have to scroll through a few hours worth of tweets.
Q. What would you say is your average number of Tweets?
A. Let's do some math: As of 4/1/13, I have tweeted 1,594 times. My first tweet occurred on 10/23/10. According to Siri, there are 891 days between those two dates. 1,594 tweets divided by 863 days is 1.79 tweets/day. #nerdalert
Q. Which of your teammates has the best Tweets and why?
A. I can usually count on Kevin Paule (@DietWhiskey) for some funny tweets, especially on #PunSaturday. I also find Chris Sanderson's (@csanderson5) sarcastic tweets amusing. Andrew Dwoskin (@Dwosk_) can be funny sometimes too, even though I don't think anyone understands most of his tweets.
Q. The people I follow in baseball are…
A. There is a bunch, but two of my favorites are Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon McCarthy (@BMcCarthy32) and Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison (@LoMoMarlins). Their tweets are usually pretty entertaining.
Q. Someone who you wouldn't think I follow is…
A. HGTV personality Mike Holmes (@Make_It_Right). He has a show where he fixes shoddy home renovations. I wish he would come fix my leaky apartment!
Q. The people whose tweets you can't miss…
A. I really like reading the articles strength and conditioning coach Eric Cressey (@EricCressey) tweets about baseball training. On a different note, tweets from current/former Wash U golfers Melanie Walsh (@MellyMeldubs), Hannah Buck (@THEhbuck), and Katie Homa (@homakat) usually make me laugh.
Q. I wish_____was on Twitter.
A. I was going to say Dennis Rodman, but upon further review, he's already on Twitter (@dennisrodman). I'll say Wash U infielder Ryan Slawin. The guy never fails to make our team laugh.
Q. What Washington U. coach or staff member do you wish was on Twitter?
A. Does a parody of assistant baseball coach Nick Mahrt count? The real him is already on twitter (@nmahrt), but I think his high energy level would make for a good parody account.
Q. Describe your Twitter followers.
A. People that have great taste in tweets. Maybe someday there will be enough of them for me to earn the exclusive blue checkmark...
