Washington University’s Stephen Bonser and David Madson Named to UAA All-Tournament Baseball Team
Rochester, N.Y., March 21, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis juniors Stephen Bonser and David Madson were both named to the 2012 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship All-Tournament Baseball Team, as announced Wednesday by the Association.
Bonser pitched two complete games for Washington U. at the UAA Tournament, becoming the 13th pitcher in UAA tournament history to finish with a 0.00 ERA in at least nine innings of work. On March 11, Bonser allowed just three hits and recorded five strikeouts in the Bears’ 1-0 win over University of Rochester to open the tournament. He threw his second-straight complete game on March 16, striking out six and allowing five hits, as Emory University scored two unearned runs to beat Washington U., 2-0. In his 18 innings of work at the tournament, Bonser issued just one walk.
Madson led Washington U. offensively, batting .320 (8-for-25) in eight games at the UAA Tournament., including a 3-for-4 effort against Emory on March 16. The catcher also finished with two RBIs and three walks in the tournament. Defensively, Madson finished with 40 putouts and eight assists, including being part of one of Washington U.’s conference-best 11 double plays, and threw out 3-of-6 base runners attempting to steal.
Washington U. (12-6, 5-3 UAA) finished second to Emory at the 2012 UAA Championship Tournament, which was the Bears’ highest finish since 2006.
