Seniors Lauren Budde and Dylan Roman Earn UAA Athlete of the Week Honors
St. Louis, Mo., September 19, 2011 – Senior middle hitter Lauren Budde of the second-ranked Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team and senior forward Dylan Roman of the No. 6 men’s soccer team each earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors, it was announced Monday by the conference office.
Budde helped volleyball team post a perfect 4-0 record to win the Molten Colorado College Invitational on Friday-Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo. She led the Bears with 46 kills while hitting .420, reaching double figures in kills three of the four matches and hitting better than .500 twice, leading to tournament Most Valuable Player honors.
With 14 kills against Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday morning, she eclipsed 1,000 for her career and ended the weekend with 1,014-career kills. Budde also had 34 digs and 13 total blocks. The Bears beat three ranked teams at the tournament, sweeping No. 9 Juniata College, No. 12 Colorado College and No. 15 Concordia College.
Roman scored three goals and extended his scoring streak to five games as Washington U. picked up two victories at home last week to improve to 6-0 on the year.
He found the back of the net in a 5-0 win over Birmingham Southern College on Friday night, and then scored twice, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 win over Greenville College on Saturday. Roman leads the team and is third in the UAA with six goals so far this season.
