Ben Harmon and Alex Hoover Named UAA Athlete of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., February 8, 2011 – Washington University in St. Louis senior men’s indoor track and field athlete Ben Harmon and senior point guard Alex Hoover of the No. 7 ranked women’s basketball team earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors, as announced Monday by the Association.
Harmon won the pentathlon with an NCAA Division III indoor championship provisional qualifying score of 3,634 points at the Illinois Wesleyan University Bob Keck Invitational on Friday in Bloomington, Ill.
Harmon’s top performances included marks of 1.94 meters in the high jump and 6.77 meters in the long jump. His score ranks first nationally through this weekend’s competition.
Hoover averaged 13.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting a blistering 71.4 percent (10-14) from the field in the Bears’ two road victories last weekend. She scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting in a 73-37 victory at Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, and then netted a game-high 17 points on 3-of-3 shooting from three-point range in a 69-47 win at Case Western Reserve University on Sunday.
Hoover was also 3-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc, 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and did not commit a turnover in 47 minutes played.
