Washington University Has Three Named UAA Athlete of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., December 5, 2011 – Washington University in St. Louis had three student-athletes earn University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors, as announced Monday by the Association.
Senior sprinter Tyler Jackson of the men’s indoor track and field team, senior guard Dylan Richter of the men’s basketball team and sophomore jumper Jasmine Williams of the women’s indoor track and field team each earned the honor.
Jackson won an event at the Illinois Wesleyan First Chance meet on Friday in Bloomington, Ill. He won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.73 seconds in the finals.
Richter averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and earned Most Valuable Player honors of the 28th Annual Lopata Classic held at Washington University last weekend. He scored a career-high 27 points and hit 5-of-8 three-pointers in a 71-68 victory over previously unbeaten and No. 1 ranked Augustana College on Saturday in the championship game. Richter also scored 14 points and added five boards in an 84-72 win over Whittier College on Friday. Richter leads the team and is ninth in the UAA in scoring (15.4 ppg).
Williams won two events at the Illinois Wesleyan First Chance Meet on Friday. She won the high jump with a height of 1.65 meters, which moved her into a tie for second all-time at Washington University. Williams also won the long jump with a leap of 5.02 meters.
