Hoover and Hoener Named to Capital One Academic All-District Teams
St. Louis, Mo., February 4, 2011 – The Washington University in St. Louis men’s and women’s basketball teams each had an honoree selected to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District Team, as announced Friday by the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA).
Sophomore Ben Hoener of the men’s basketball team and junior Dani Hoover of the women’s basketball team each earned third-team honors. This marks the first time Hoener and Hoover earned the accolade.
Hoener has started all 18 games for the Bears at point guard, and is averaging 7.9 points, 4.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. He ranks third in the University Athletic Association (UAA) in assists (4.2), fourth in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.8) seventh in free-throw percentage (.802) and 13th in steals (1.0). Hoener has a 3.55 grade point average while majoring in chemistry.
Hoover is averaging 5.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest, while starting 10 of 18 games played at two guard. She ranks second on the team and 14th in the UAA with 5.3 rebounds per game. Since UAA play began in January, she is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game, which ranks third in the league. Hoover has a 4.0 GPA while majoring in systems science & engineering.
The Washington University men’s and women’s basketball teams begin a four-game road trip on Friday, Feb. 4, at Carnegie Mellon University. The women game tips off at 6 p.m. (ET), followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m.
