Brown's Second-Half Goal Leads WUSTL Past No. 15 Calvin, 1-0

St. Louis, Mo., September 3, 2010 – The No. 2 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women’s soccer team rebounded from a season-opening loss to post a 1-0 victory at home over No. 15 ranked Calvin College on Friday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo.
In a rematch from last year’s quarterfinal contest where Washington U. won 2-1, junior Emma Brown scored the lone goal for Washington U. at 56:30 in the second half. Junior Lee Ann Felder got through the Calvin defense and made a nice pass to Brown, who’s left footed shot to the near corner got past Calvin goalkeeper for her first goal of the year.
Sophomore goalkeeper Clara Jaques picked up the shutout in goal making one save. The shutout for Jaques is the seventh in her career, while she upped her career win total to 17.
Washington U. held a 13-4 advantage in shots and 2-1 in corner kicks. Brown led the offensive attack for the Bears with four shots, while sophomore Emily Gosché attempted three shots on goal.
Washington University (1-1) returns to action at home on Sunday, September 5, at 2 p.m., against the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire.
Bear Notebook: Washington U. leads the all-time series with Calvin, 6-0 … The goal for Brown was the 17th of her career, just four shy of the top-10 all-time list.
