Bears Fall at Southeast Missouri State, 1-0, in Season Opener

Cape Girardeau, Mo., September 1, 2010 – The No. 2 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team dropped its 2010 season opener at Division I Southeast Missouri State University, 1-0, on Wednesday night in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Freshman Stephanie Palmer recorded the game-winning goal in the 20th minute for SEMO, as she broke loose from Washington U.’s defenders and beat sophomore goalkeeper Clara Jaques with a shot to the far corner. The goal for Palmer was her team-leading third of the season.
Southeast Missouri State (3-1) outshot Washington University, 19-16, for the game, including 12-8 in the first half. Junior Emma Brown fired a team-best seven shots, with two coming on net. Jaques took the loss for Washington U. in goal make five saves.
Washington University (0-1) returns to action with its 2010 home opener on Friday, Sept. 3, at 4:30 p.m., against No. 15 ranked Calvin College.
Bear Notebook: Washington U. is 1-1 all-time against Southeast Missouri State … The Bears suffered a season-opening loss for the second-straight season.
