Washington U.'s Ryan Bednar and Adam Putterman Named UAA Athlete of the Week

St. Louis, Mo., September 25, 2012 — Washington University in St. Louis sophomore linebacker Ryan Bednar of the football team and senior Adam Putterman of the men’s tennis team earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the league office.

Bednar’s 84-yard interception return for a touchdown midway through the third quarter gave Washington U. the lead for good as the Bears picked up their first win of the season in a 28-23 victory over Kenyon College on Saturday.

The interception for Bednar was his first of the season and fourth of his career. He also added four tackles (three solo) in the victory.

Putterman defended his USTA/ITA Central Region Men’s Tennis Singles Championship with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Paul Burgin of Kenyon College on Monday in Indianapolis, Ind. Putterman, who also advanced to the quarterfinals in the doubles draw with sophomore Ross Putterman, won seven singles matches in straight sets in four days to claim the title.

He advances to the USTA/ITA Small College Championships, held Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 13-16, at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. Putterman is 9-0 this season in singles and 68-24 for his four-year career.
