Dave Spandorfer and Claire Voris Named UAA Athlete of the Week

St. Louis, Mo., April 18, 2011 – Washington University in St. Louis had two student-athletes earn University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors, as announced Monday by the Association.

Senior Dave Spandorfer of the No. 5 ranked men’s outdoor track and field team and senior pitcher Claire Voris of the softball team each earned the accolade.

Spandorfer won the 5,000-meter run with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time as the Bears finished fourth at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Twilight Meet on Friday in Terre Haute, Ind. He finished the 5,000 with a time of 14:38.91, which ranks 11th in Division III through last weekend’s competition.

Voris allowed four hits and an unearned run in the Bears’ 5-1 game one victory at Westminster College on Wednesday. The complete game for Voris was the 68th of her career, second most in school history. She also struck out nine in the win, moving into a tie for 24th place in NCAA Division III history with 761 strikeouts.

Voris has a 12-3 overall record with a 2.02 earned run average, and leads the conference with 142 strikeouts. This is Voris’ third UAA Athlete of the Week honor this season and 13th of her career.
