Beddo and Schoen Earn NSCAA All-Central Region Honors
St. Louis, Mo., January 12, 2010 – Junior backs Harry Beddo and Randall Schoen of the Washington University in St. Louis men’s soccer team earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Central Region honors, as announced by the organization. Beddo was named to the All-Central region second team, while Schoen was a third-team All-Central Region selection.
Beddo and Schoen, who both earn NSCAA all-region accolades for the first time in their careers, each played critical roles for the Washington University defensive effort. They anchored a back line that gave up just 16 goals in 19 games, an average of 0.84 goals per game. The Bears ranked fourth in the University Athletic Association (UAA) and 52nd in NCAA Division III in team goals against average.
Also spending some time as a part of Washington University’s offensive attack, Beddo finished third on the team in scoring with three goals last season. He registered the game-winning score in a 2-0 Washington U. win at Emory University on Oct. 4.
Beddo and Schoen also earned first-team all-UAA honors when the conferences end of the year awards were announced, marking the first time either student-athlete was named first-team all-association.
Washington University finished its season with a 9-7-3 overall record, and the Bears were 3-4 in the UAA, finishing fourth in the final conference standings.
