Three Washington University Student-Athletes Receive UAA Athlete of the Week Honors
St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 5, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis senior Kelly Pang and sophomores Lucy Cheadle and Chris Haeberle were each selected as University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week, as announced by the Association.
Cheadle was named the UAA Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week after placing first out of 140 runners at the Washington University Early Bird Meet on Saturday, Sept. 1. She clocked a winning time of 14:21.3 on the 4K course, nearly 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher. Cheadle’s performance helped lead Washington U. to a second-place finish in the team standings behind NCAA Division I Southeast Missouri State University.
Haeberle earned UAA Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week honors after scoring a goal in each of the Bears’ two wins over the weekend. His first-career goal came in the 20th minute of a 1-0 victory at Birmingham-Southern College on Friday, Aug. 31. Haeberle then scored the game-tying goal in the 59th minute against Sewanee University in a match that Washington University won, 2-1 in overtime. He tallied two goals in three shots for the week.
Pang helped lead the Washington University volleyball team to a 6-0 record in the opening weekend of the season to earn the UAA Volleyball Athlete of the Week award. In the Bears’ six wins, she tallied 98 digs and posted a .970 serve reception percentage. Pang also recorded 17 service aces and just four serving errors in 107 total attempts for the week. For her efforts, Pang was selected to the all-tournament team at the Washington University Labor Day Classic.
