Men's and Women's Tennis Sweep UAA Athlete of the Week Honors
St. Louis, Mo., May 9, 2011 – Freshman Theresa Petraskova of the No. 13 Washington University in St. Louis women’s tennis team and senior Isaac Stein of the No. 6 men’s tennis team each earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors, as announced Monday by the conference office.
Petraskova picked up a pair of victories as Washington University defeated No. 17 DePauw University, 6-3, on Saturday, May 7, in Greencastle, Ind. She partnered with senior Elise Sambol to earn an 8-4 win at second doubles, the Bears’ only doubles point in the win, and then posted a straight-set 7-5, 6-4, win over Meg Crowley at No. 4 singles.
Stein was also 2-0 as the WUSTL men defeated No. 17 DePauw 8-1 on Saturday morning. He teamed with classmate Max Woods for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles and then came back to win his No. 1 singles match, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Stein’s singles victory was the 65th of his career, moving him past Chris Hoeland (2005-09) into sixth place in school history.
The Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams learn their postseason fates when the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship field is announced on Monday night at 7 p.m. (ET). The men’s finished second at the UAA Championship and is ranked No. 2 in the Central Region, while the women’s team finished third at the UAA Tournament and was No. 3 in the latest NCAA Central Region rankings.
