Kathryn Berger and Dan Davis Named UAA Athletes of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., February 21, 2011 – Senior Kathryn Berger of the No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis women’s basketball team and junior Dan Davis of the men’s indoor track and field team earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors for a second week in a row, as announced Monday by the conference office.
Both Berger and Davis have been honored by the UAA for outstanding performances several times this year, including just last week when the two WUSTL standouts were each tabbed as top performers in the conference. Berger garners UAA Athlete of the Week honors for the fifth time this season, while Davis has been honored four times in six weeks of eligibility for the award.
Berger averaged 17.5 points, six rebounds and three three-pointers per game in the Bears’ two conference victories last week. She scored 16 points to go along with eight rebounds as Washington U. defeated New York, 68-50, last Friday night, and followed that up with a 19-point, four-rebound performance in a 79-47 win over Brandeis University on Sunday afternoon.
For the week Berger shot .600 (12-of-20) from the floor and from three-point range (6-of-10). She is leading Washington University in scoring (14.8) and rebounding (6.3) this season.
Davis won the 60-meter hurdles at the Illinois College Alumni Classic on Friday, Feb. 18, in Jacksonville, Ill., with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 8.28. He also broke the Washington University school record of 8.32, which he and teammate Tyler Jackson set earlier this year.
