St. Louis, Mo., February 11, 2013 – Junior Anna Etherington, Deer Park, Ill. (Barrington) of the No. 6 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women’s indoor track and field team and junior Chris Klimek, Inverness, Ill. (William Fremd) of the No. 20 men’s basketball team were named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week, as announced Monday by the Association.
This marks the second time this season and fourth time in her career Etherington has earned the accolade, while Klimek picks up the honors for the second time this season.
Etherington broke the Washington University school record in the women's pole vault, winning the event at the Monmouth Fighting Scot Invite Saturday with a clearance of 3.87 meters. The mark was two centimeters better than her previous career-best, and one centimeter better than the previous school record set by Morgen Leonard-Fleckman in 2008. Etherington ranks third on this season's NCAA Division III performance list with the mark.
Klimek averaged 14.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as Washington U. moved into second place in the UAA standings with a pair of victories at home over Emory University (68-65) Friday and No. 4 University of Rochester (72-53) Sunday. Klimek had a game-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting and seven rebounds in the 72-53 upset win over Rochester. He shot 61.1 percent (11-18) from the field in the two games, and hit 7-of-11 from the free-throw line.
