Women's Basketball Senior Kathryn Berger Garners Pair of Weekly Accolades
St. Louis, Mo., December 13, 2010 – Senior Kathryn Berger of the No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis women’s basketball team was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week and the Earlaustinjr.com Area College Player of the Week, as announced Monday.
It is the second time this season Berger has garnered UAA Athlete of the Week honors and the first time she has been selected as the Earl Austin Jr. St. Louis Area College Player of the Week.
Berger recorded a double-double in back-to-back games to lead Washington University to a pair of victories last weekend in St. Louis, Mo. She scored 17 points to go along with 11 rebounds in the Bears’ 81-47 victory over Central College (Iowa) on Friday night, and followed that up by posting another 17-point, 11-rebound performance in a 69-49 win against Loras College on Saturday.
Additionally, Berger finished the week shooting 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from three-point range and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in the two wins.
Berger is first on Washington University in scoring (13.6 ppg) and rebounding (7.3 rpg) and ranks sixth in the UAA in both categories in addition to leading the league in free-throw shooting (.862) and ranking fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.439).
Washington U. (7-1) concludes its first semester of competition and begins a string of four-straight road contests on Saturday, Dec. 18, when it faces Webster University in St. Louis, Mo., at 1 p.m.
