Senior Dave Spandorfer Named University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., November 16, 2010 – Senior Dave Spandorfer of the Washington University in St. Louis men’s cross country team earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Spandorfer led the WUSTL men’s cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the competitive NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill. He finished 11th overall in a field of 275 runners, completing the 8K course in 24:27.8.
Following their strong showing at the Midwest Regional Championship, Washington U. earned at at-large berth to the NCAA Championships for a second-straight season for the first time in school history. The Bears are coming off a school-record seventh-place showing at the 2009 NCAA meet. The WUSTL women’s team was an automatic qualifier with a second-place finish at regionals.
This year’s NCAA Division III Championship is hosted by Wartburg College, and will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the H.J. Max Championship Course in Waverly, Iowa. The men’s championship will begin at 11 a.m., with the women’s race to follow at Noon.
