Washington University Has Four Student-Athletes Named UAA Athlete of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., October 10, 2011 – Sophomore Jonathan Jebson of the No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis men’s soccer team, junior Brendan Morin and senior Mike Rao of the men’s swimming and diving team and sophomore Chi Pham of the women’s swimming and diving team each earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors, it was announced Monday by the conference office.
Jebson helped the men’s soccer team come away with a 2-1 double overtime victory at Emory University on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga. He made a season-high six saves in 103:56 minutes in net, including three in the first overtime period, to preserve a 1-1 tie before senior Kevin Privalle scored the game-winner in the second overtime.
Morin garnered three top-10 finishes while swimming in four events for the men’s swimming and diving team at the University of Missouri Show-Me Showdown on Saturday afternoon in Columbia, Mo. He came in eighth in the 75-yard butterfly (37.89), ninth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.57), ninth in the 200-freestyle relay (1:28.99) and 12th in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:15.60).
Rao competed in a pair of diving events for the Bears at the Show-Me Showdown. He came in third in the one-meter springboard with a score of 222.20 and sixth in the three-meter board with a score of 159.80.
Pham picked up four top-10 swims for the Bears at the Show-Me. In addition to a seventh-place finish in the 75-yard butterfly (43.39), she came in seventh in the 200-freestyle relay (1:41.64), eighth in the 200-medley relay (1:53.64) and ninth in the 400-freestyle relay (3:44.34). Pham also placed 12th in the 300-yard individual medley (3:29.35).
