Kathryn Berger and Tyler Jackson Earn UAA Athlete of the Week Honors
St. Louis, Mo., January 18, 2011 – Senior Kathryn Berger of the No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis women’s basketball team and junior Tyler Jackson of the men’s indoor track and field team each earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Berger averaged 21.5 points and seven rebounds in a pair of conference victories last week in St. Louis, Mo. She scored 17 points to go along with six rebounds in a 94-55 win over Emory University on Friday night and followed up that performance by pouring in a career-high 26 points with eight rebounds in a 101-90 double overtime victory over No. 5 University of Rochester on Sunday.
For the week, Berger shot 51.9 percent (14-of-27) from the field, 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from three-point range and 90.9 percent (10-of-11) from the free-throw line. She leads Washington U. and ranks third in the UAA in scoring with 14.6 points per game.
Jackson broke the Washington University school record and provisionally qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 8.32 in the 60-meter hurdles at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Double Dual Meet on Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind.
Jackson’s first-place finish helped the Bears finish second out of three Division III squads at the Double Dual with a team score of 90 points.
