WUSTL Adds Three to Athletics Staff
St. Louis, Mo., July 24, 2012 — Washington University in St. Louis Director of Athletics John Schael announced three additions to the Department of Athletics today with the hiring of assistant athletic trainers Jacob Blasingame and Mary Tarzon and assistant facility manager Hunter Culbertson.
Blasingame comes to Washington University after earning his master's degree in athletic training from Saint Louis University in 2011. He also received his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from SLU in 2010. Blasingame just completed a four-month term as interim assistant athletic trainer at Washington University (February-May 2012), and also completed stints as athletic trainer for Khazen AthleticKare (March-July 2012) and athletic training student at SLU (2009-11).
He also worked for the St. Louis Rams as an athletic training intern (Summer 2010) and had student athletic trainer mini rotations at Webster Groves High School and Washington University. Blasingame is assigned to cover men’s soccer, junior varsity football, baseball and assist with men’s and women’s basketball.
Tarzon arrives on the Danforth Campus after earning a master’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training from Indiana University in 2012. While completing her master’s degree, she served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the cross country and track and field teams. Tarzon received her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Xavier University in 2010.
She also spent four years as an athletic training student at Xavier, assisting with men’s soccer, women’s basketball and baseball. Tarzon also spent one season working with the Elder High School football team as an athletic training student. She is assigned to cover volleyball, cross country, swimming & diving, softball and women’s tennis.
Culbertson comes to Washington University after completing his master’s degree in exercise and sport science with a specialization in college athletics administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012. He also received his bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science from UNC in 2008.
While attaining his master’s degree at UNC, he served as Athletic Operations Graduate Intern (August 2011-July 2012) and Athletic Operations Graduate Assistant (August 2010-June 2011). Culbertson completed a pair of internships with the Durham Bulls in stadium operations, and the United States Open Golf Championships in operations.
