WUSTL Drops to Third in Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings
St. Louis, Mo., May 24, 2012 – The Washington University in St. Louis Department of Athletics fell to third place in the first set of spring 2011-12 Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) on Thursday.
Middlebury College (Vt.) took over the top spot from Washington University following a third-place finish in women’s lacrosse and a 21st-place finish in men’s golf. Middlebury leads with 811 points, while Amherst College has moved up to second with 757.75 points. Washington U. is third with 744.50 points following a 13th-place finish in women’s golf, while 15-time Directors’ Cup champion Williams College (603 points) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (542.75 points) round out the top five.
Washington University is one of five University Athletic Association (UAA) members within the top 60 in Division III–Emory University (15th, 460 points), University of Chicago (36th, 315 points), Case Western Reserve University (54th, 219.50 points) and New York University (56th, 216.50 points).
Washington University has recorded nine-straight top 10 finishes in the Directors’ Cup: 2010-11 (third), 2009-10 (third), 2008-09 (fourth), 2007-08 (second), 2006-07 (fifth), 2005-06 (seventh), 2004-05 (third), 2003-04 (ninth), 2002-03 (fifth).
The final Division III standings will be released on Thursday, June 7.
