STUDENT ATHLETIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAAC)
MISSION STATEMENT
1. To enhance the collegiate experience of Washington University student-athletes by providing a forum for positive growth and development in the athletic community.
2. To provide educational, leadership and service opportunities which exemplify and exhibit the spirit and essence of the Bear student-athlete.
3. To create stronger lines of communication between student-athletes, coaches, and athletic administrators.
4. To strengthen unity among student-athletes and members of the student body through education, awareness, and communication.
5. To act as a liaison between Washington University student-athletes and SAAC on the conference and national level through membership and dissemination of information. To provide input on relevant UAA and NCAA issues.
NCAA DIVISION III PROPOSED LEGISLATION
PROPOSAL
2008-09 NCAA ETHNIC MINORITY & WOMEN'S ENHANCEMENT POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
The NCAA will award 13 scholarships to ethnic minorities and 13 scholarships to women college graduates who will be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies. Each award is for $6,000.
Awardees of the scholarship must be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies during the 2008-09 academic year and they must be a full-time student at all times while using the award. The student must be a U.S. citizen.
The application deadline is Thursday, Dec. 6. Applicants can apply online using the online submission system. For acces to the online submission system, you may log onto www.ncaa.org. The scholarships pages can easily accessed by clicking on the "Forms" tab located at the top of the ncaa.org home page.

VOLLEYBALL VISITS ST. LOUIS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
The 2007 NCAA Division III National Champion Washington University volleyball team made a trip to the St. Louis Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, April 29, delivering signed volleyballs to patients as a part of the hospital’s Child Life Services program. Baden provided the Washington University volleyball team with several hundred mini volleyballs, which members of the team signed and distributed to hospital patients on four floors. – PHOTOS
FIRST ANNUAL TEDDY BEAR DRIVE
SAAC conducted a Bears for Bears campaign during which the athletic teams collected or donated new stuffed teddy bears to be donated to Children's Hospital. The group's initial goal was to collect 200 bears. They surpassed this by over 300 bears, with a grand total of 554. Congratulations to the student-athletes and the athletic staff for helping us reach our goal! – PHOTOS
BUILD-A-BEAR AND KaBOOM! PAWSOME PLACE TO PLAY PROGRAM
SAAC participated in the KaBOOM! program at Beyond Housing on Saturday, Sept. 8, in St. Louis, Mo. KaBOOM! is a non-pofit organization that constructs new recreational areas across the country, and to date has built over 1,100 new playgrounds, skateparks, sports fields and ice rinks. The Bears' women's basketball team joined a group of more than 400 volunteers to construct a new playground in just one day. – PHOTOS
WALK MS FUNDRAISER FOR NATIONAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY
The Washington University women's basketball team participated in the Walk MS fundraiser in Clayton, Mo., on Sunday April 13, raising $680 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The Walk MS program annually draws more than 250,000 participants in 700 cities across the country. Participants in the Walk MS program raise money that is used to support research and services for people with MS. – PHOTOS
