Our Purpose

The W Club was organized in 1989 as a formal way to support the programs and opportunities offered by the Department of Athletics.  Since then, participation in the W Club by former letter winners and other alumni, parents and friends of Athletics has been phenomenal, serving as the focus for a remarkable resurgence in the interest and pride of Athletics at Washington University.  The contributions of W Club members have had a significant impact on University athletic programs, enriching their quality and broadening opportunities for students.

The W Club’s expectation is nothing less than we expect of our teams:  to be the very best.  We strive to provide the best in support services, athletic facilities and academic opportunities for all of our student-athletes.  This is only possible through the continued generosity of alumni, parents and friends involved in the W Club.  By providing funding to meet the rising costs of financing a positive experience for student-athletes, former athletes, loyal alumni, parents and friends are able to connect on a very personal level with Bears’ student-athletes and teams.

Mission Statement

Established in 1989, the W Club, comprised of alumni, parents, and friends, supports the continued growth, development, and enhancement of intercollegiate athletics to benefit Washington University's student-athletes, coaches, and the university community.

Why Join the W Club

No two members have identical reasons for joining the W Club. However, some of the more common reasons include:Assisting Washington University in St. Louis in providing a first-class experience for more than 300 student-athletes.

  • Keeping Bears’ Athletics strong and competitive to continue our tradition of winning.
  • Giving back to an institution that provided a terrific college experience.
  • Because it’s fun! The social benefits of belonging to the W Club include meeting new friends, keeping in touch with old friends, teammates and classmates, and extending a network of successful business contacts and associates.
