Joe Berchelmann

Assistant Coach, Softball

Joe Berchelmann begins his season season as an assistant softball coach for Washington University in St. Louis, after spending spending nine seasons as an assistant baseball coach.

Berchelmann arrived at Washington University after spending four seasons as the head baseball coach at Maryville University in St. Louis. The 1999 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Baseball Coach of the Year also spent four years as the assistant baseball coach at Vianney High School.

In the summer of 2009, Berchelmann coached the Alton Indians of the St. Louis Metro Collegiate League to the league championship, and guided his team to the NABF national quarterfinals in Toledo, Ohio, before being eliminated.

A four-year letterwinner in football at Central Catholic High School, Berchelmann played one year of collegiate football at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, before graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in 1973. He also completed one year of postgraduate work at the University of Texas in 1974.
