Caleb Lawson begins his fourth season as a full-time assistant men’s basketball coach and sixth overall at Washington University in St. Louis.

Lawson was promoted to a full-time assistant coach on May 4, 2009, after spending two seasons as a part-time assistant.

Lawson’s first season as a full-time assistant coach in 2009-10 saw the Bears post a 24-3 overall record, and capture its ninth University Athletic Association (UAA) title in school history. Washington U. also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

This past season, Washington U. posted a 20-7 overall mark, and won the 2012 UAA Championship and made an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bears also secured their 28th-consecutive winning season.

Lawson was a part-time assistant during the 2008-09 season after spending the 2007-08 season as a graduate assistant coach at Division I Austin Peay State University.

The Governors posted a 24-10 overall record, won the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament Championship, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

He was also an assistant coach at Washington University during the 2006-07 season. In his five seasons on Mark Edwards’ staff, the Bears have compiled a 111-29 (.793) record, captured three UAA championships, made two trips to the Final Four, and won the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship.

Lawson also spent three years as an assistant coach at Maryville University and won two St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament Championships and participated in two NCAA Tournaments.

A 2002 graduate of Parkway South High School, Lawson began his coaching career as a student assistant at Southwest Missouri State at West Plains and transferred to Maryville prior to becoming an assistant coach.

Lawson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history from Maryville University in 2007, and a master’s degree in sports and wellness leadership from Austin Peay in 2008.

Lawson and the former Kelly Mitchell were married on Aug. 13, 2011.
